Microsoft
August 6, Redmond officially released SP2 to Manufacturing. During the worldwide rollout of Service Pack 2, they will localize the software in 25 languages over the next two months and distribute it to computer manufacturers, enterprise customers and consumers through downloads, retail installation, free CDs and on new PCs. If you run WinXP on your admin workstation you can simply turn on the Automatic Updates feature in Windows XP. Customers with Automatic Updates enabled will receive the latest security updates for Windows XP, along with updated installation software that will optimize the download of Service Pack 2 and all future updates to WinXP.

Intel
Intel's Express 915 and Express 925 chipsets, along with six additional  Pentium 4 chips, hit the market in PCs on Monday, sprouting a number of new  desktops, including a smaller model for businesses and more multimedia-savvy  machines for consumers.

Wireless Worm Appears
A newly detected worm spreads among mobile phones using the Bluetooth  wireless technology, according to security firm F-Secure.

Windows XP SP2 Delayed
The release of Windows XP Service Pack 2, a major update of the  two-and-a-half-year-old operating system, is being pushed back into  the second half of the year.

Microsoft Admits Problem with Blockbuster Patch
Microsoft on Wednesday night acknowledged that its massive April 13  security patch was causing serious problems in some Windows 2000  systems. The company issued a Knowledge Base Article (841382) on the issue Wednesday with the lengthy title: "Your computer stops  responding, you cannot log on to Windows, or your CPU usage for the  System process approaches 100 percent after you install the security  update that is described in Microsoft Security Bulletin MS04-011."
